Late in October 2007 I visited the island of Leyte in the Philippines to scuba dive and make
photographic images. I stayed and dived with Sogod bay Scuba Resort in South Leyte. Traveling went
pretty much as planned but the housing and lighting for my camera to take pictures underwater was
delayed by three days. I began diving on schedule but spent some portions of my first few days visiting
the towns of Padre Burgos and Maasin. Many Filipinos celebrate All Saints Day off from work and
visiting cemeteries of the passed relatives. This contributed to delayed delivery of my luggage but
some photo opportunities I would not have used otherwise.
I met four friendly and wonderful people from Whales who welcomed me into their diving group and
we ate, dived, drank rum and coke, and visited a local school together. I enjoyed learning about a
country I was not too familiar. Two were photographers that frequently compared photo thoughts on the
boat after dives.
Sogod Bay is visited by whale sharks beginning early to mid-November, but we did not see any.
I hope you like these images.
